Performances
The Auditorium program falls within the major themes of the Museum while seeking not only to be a clear focus for events within that scope but also serving as a counterbalance to the more contemplative character of the visual arts or the more historical and symbolic features of the collection on display. Furthermore, the facility acts as a bridge in the close relationships established through events put on by the respective different services.
In drawing up the performance program, efforts were undertaken to ensure coherence between the Orient as a point of reference but ensuring artists from other parts of the world also play a leading role.
Music, dance, theatre, puppets and cinema all have their place in the auditorium. However, the music of the world represents the main programming facet welcoming artists and groups from diverse backgrounds and origins – from the traditional to the experimental, to fusion and other contemporary sounds.
Furthermore, festivals with established reputations, both cinema and theatre, may now include the Museu do Oriente as one of their partners.
Classical music and jazz are to the fore in the Summer Concert program, a Fundação Oriente initiative in recent years that has already built up a loyal audience.
