Sa Dingding is the Chinese sensation of the moment! An amazing singer, musician, composer and choreographer, Sa Dingding has been gaining growing audiences somewhat across Europe and particularly in the United Kingdom. Such popularity and recognition was recently capped with a much-desired BBC Award (the same that projected Mariza to international stardom) for Best Asian Artist of 2007.
Daughter of a Mongolian mother and Chinese father, Sa Dingding was interested in music from her very first days and admired for her abilities both as a player of zheng (a type of 25 string Chinese sitar) as well as various percussion and woodwind instruments. The artist often says that “even before speaking, I already knew how to sing”. Given her education and the multiethnic background of her upbringing, her work is also influenced by Buddhism, Dyana Yoga and Sanskrit. With an international profile since the BBC Award, Sa Dingding is performing at a range of events including some of the most important European world music festivals such as Womad, the London festival directed by Peter Gabriel.
