BEIJING DANCE ACADEMY DANCING MILLENNIA AND CHINESE CLASSICAL DANCE
Founded in 1954, the Beijing Dance Academy is one of the most prestigious higher arts teaching schools in China.
Attended by around 2,000 students, the degrees taught range from Classical Chinese Dance (gudian wu), Chinese Folk Dance (mian jian and minzu wu), Ballet, Modern Dance (xiandai wu) through to Choreography (bian dao), History and Theory of Dance and Popular Dances.
Initially modelled on the Bolshoi Academy regime, it has also been influenced by the French School, the Royal Academy of Dancing and Royal Danish Ballet as reflected in its teaching program and repertoire. This school has trained some of the leading Chinese dancers many of them having now moved onto places with the major international dance companies.
Performing for the first time in Portugal in a co-production between the Fundação Oriente and the China International Culture Agency, Beijing Dance Academy presents a selection of its repertoire including Historic and Traditional Dancing and Classic Dance of China.
