SUMMER HOLIDAYS AT THE MUSEUM 

The Museu do Oriente Summer Workshops, intended for children, offer pedagogical proposals in which learning and playing are the highlights. Activities were thought so that children may discover the Museum’s collection through smells, sounds, colours and flavours made available for them and which will work as inspiration for creativity, culture and sharing of experiences.

SPICE TINTED PAINTS
Concepts: Flavours, Colours, Travel

What is the flavour of the Orient? Cinnamon, saffron, curry… What colours are expecting us at the Museum? Lots of colours or just a few? And are they brilliant or sad? After exploring spices, children head for the Education Department’s kitchen. There, they are invited to produce, with saffron, cinnamon, curry, paprika, ginger, oils and eggs, the paints that will be used to decorate their masterpieces.

I MASK MYSELF, YOU MASK YOURSELF, WE MASK OURSELVES! 
Concepts: Identity, Masks, Theatre
I can suddenly become another person. As if in fairytale, I wave a wand and… WHOOSH! I am a god, a dragon, witch or clown. Who am I, after all?
An artistic workshop featuring plaster of Paris mask making and painting inspired on examples found in the collection. The event culminates with a short performance recreating the episode dealt with during the visit.

ON YOUR MARKS! GO!
Concepts: Game, Identity, Theatre, Globalization, China

From track to track, as if in a peddy-paper, let’s collect sensations that will lead us to China. In the end, players will celebrate their performance with a ceremony worthy of the Olympic Games!

MY INNER MAP
Concepts: Cartography, Discoveries, Travel Writing

After perusing the various maps on exhibit, each student sets about creating his own world map in which places correspond to the geography of emotions and memories. Let’s leave for a long travel through the Museu do Oriente and make it a wonderful experience!  Virtual reality making the planet on which we live personal.  Will we be able to create our own virtual map?

GLORY OF THE ORIENT
Concept: Game, Voyages, History

The luck factor comes into play determining the route taken on which students acquire learning about Asia: gods, buddhas, uses, dresses, food… What do they have to tell us?  In each house an activity takes place, ranging from martial arts, to peddy-papers, dance and singing or even theatre.
