KIMMO POHJONEN KLUSTER
Kimmo Pohjonen – accordion, voice
Juuso Hannukainen – percussion, samplers

The Finnish accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen has taken on a singular mission: to take the capacities, in sound, range, performance and experience, of the accordion to levels never before achieved, seen or heard. The accordion, effects, surround sound and lights combine to form a unique and fascinating spectacle.

The Kimmo Pohjonen Kluster project was set up in 2001 with Kimmo Pohjonen on the accordion and the sampling guru Samuli Kosminen. Both musicians are renowned adventurers in their own fields and in Kluster, their partnership takes the music of the accordion into new and unexplored territory to create a spiral of multidimensional music, different to anything thus far heard. It should be noted that all the samples reproduced on stage derive either from the accordion or the voice of Pohjonen.

Kimmo Pohjonen is one of the most respected musicians and performers of Finland. He began playing at the age of 10 and throughout the subsequent three decades has gained experiences in fields as diverse as rock and folk, theatre, dance, classical music groupings, improvisation and avant-garde.

Juuso Hannukainen, known to a wider public as a member of the Don Johnson Big Band, is one of the most renowned Finnish percussionists currently performing. He began playing aged 13 and a highly rich and varied career complemented by the electronic effects and samples of his acoustic instruments have served to create new sounds and a unique presence in the world of percussion.
