Come and discover this exotic and captivating dimension of the Orient. Learn how to play the Java island gamelan from Indonesia. A world of hypnotising and unforgettable sounds. The gamelan is a unique percussion instrument made up of a fabulous variety of bronze instruments as well as tambourines and gongs, among many others.
The Gamelan School is structured around three formats so as to provide opportunities for schools, families and musicians and composers to participate.

This eight session course, held on Fridays, targets musicians, percussionists and composers. It opens up an understanding of traditional gamelan music with the teaching of various techniques, including the art of composition.
The course terminates with a concert in Museu do Oriente auditorium on 28 March, at 21.30, featuring the pieces prepared during the course sessions.
