Origami is a Japanese art with many centuries of history. Following the invention of paper attributed to Tsai Lun, a Chinese official of the Han dynasty, in the 4th century there emerged religious cults who completed the first folded paper pieces. However, its major development stems from the 8th century when paper was introduced into Japan by Chinese Buddhist monks.
Among the objectives proposed is raising the profile of the art of Origami and its utilisation in educational contexts as a support in the teaching of geometry as well as raising awareness as to environmental protection.
Design and Supervision: Joaquim Tondela, member of Japan Net. Professor of Mathematics and Physics, a practitioner of the Origami technique for over 40 years. Works with the Embassy of Japan and has travelled the country putting on Origami art related events.
