In the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, Museu do Oriente has implemented a set of measures and procedures to ensure the safety of its visitors.


  • Mask wearing is mandatory
  • Keep a 2-meter (6 feet) distance from other visitors
  • Avoid gathering in groups
  • Payment by card is advised
  • Use the stairs whenever possible
  • Follow the signage and visitor flows
  • Follow the maximum capacities of each space/venue
  • Avoid touching surfaces  
  • In the Documentation Centre, glove wearing is mandatory to access the reading materiais and computer

Museu do Oriente has received the Clean&Safe Badge awarded by the Tourism of Portugal, in acknowledgement of the Museum’s compliance with the recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health regarding Covid-19 contamination prevention.

When visiting the Museum, it is forbidden:
To enter with animals;
To eat or drink;
To touch objects;
To smoke;
To take photos with flash or filming without previous note;
To enter with bags, other volumes and umbrellas that must be left in lockers

The ticket office closes 30 minutes before the museum closing.

On show days, the Auditorium opens 30 minutes before the performance.
Access to the auditorium is forbidden after the show has started.
Mobile phones must be disconnected or put in the silent mode during the shows.

For public protection, the Museum is under surveillance of a TV closed circuit (according to Portuguese law).

Advanced payment of courses, conferences, workshops, birthday parties or other activity taking place, are to be returned only in case of the activity cancelling.
